After spending half a decade stalled in development limbo at Netflix, Sam Raimi’s supernatural thriller Every House is Haunted has officially found a second life under the Disney umbrella. The long-awaited project has been picked up by 20th Century Studios, according to Deadline.
Based on Ian Rogers’ acclaimed short story “The House on Ashley Avenue,” the film will be helmed by director duo Adam Schindler and Brian Netto. Raimi is attached to produce the feature alongside Zainab Azizi, Roy Lee, and Andrew Childs.
The script, originally penned by Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman, was first picked up by Netflix back in 2021. While reasons for the delay remain undisclosed, the project is now moving forward under 20th Century Studios.
What other horror movies has Sam Raimi worked on in recent years?
Raimi has been a household figure across the horror and superhero genres. His recent work behind the camera includes Marvel’s 2022 blockbuster Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen, which had signature horror-inspired visuals in the superhero franchise.

More recently, Raimi directed the survival horror-comedy Send Help, starring Rachel McAdams, Dylan O’Brien, Edyll Ismail, and Xavier Samuel.
The film won over critics and audiences alike, holding a Certified Fresh 92% Tomatometer score and an 86% Popcornmeter rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Produced on a $40 million budget, the feature went on to generate over $94 million globally.
Raimi will soon bring another horror film on the big screen, but as a producer. The Evil Dead filmmaker is collaborating with acclaimed author Stephen King to adapt his novel Desperation into a movie. The book was previously adapted as a 2006 television film directed by Mick Garris, featuring a cast that included Tom Skerritt and Annabeth Gish.
The upcoming movie on Desperation follows a group of stranded travelers forced to battle an ancient evil in a deserted Nevada town.
