Deputy Dewey Riley, a lovable goofball in an otherwise genre-defining meta-horror film, was stabbed in the back in the original “Scream movie,” released in 1996.
The poor guy walked with a permanent limp through many sequels until pop culture villain Ghostface killed him off forever − of course, Riley distracted by another infamous phone call − in the 2022 sequel.
But, ah, 30 years later, our favorite deputy turned sheriff returns, bringing his charm to Sioux Falls for a live screening of Wes Craven’s 1996 slasher film.

The seventh and latest film was released earlier this year, and “Scream 8” is on the way.
Ghostface keeps calling back.
Arquette is on a nationwide tour for the franchise, stopping in Rapid City the night before Sioux Falls, to share behind-the-scenes stories about the making of the films, which also include actors Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and, the franchise’s latest scream queen, Jenna Ortega.

Arquette is also well known for later films, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Never Been Kissed” and “Ready to Rumble” and most recently starred in the 2024 comedy-drama “The Good Half” with Nick Jonas, Brittany Show and Elisabeth Shue.
