Fishing Laws In New York
Anglers 16 years of age and older must have a DEP Access Permit and NYS Fishing License. Anyone who is younger than the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult who has a valid DEP permit and state fishing license.
One member in the Lancaster / Depew Neighbors Helping Neighbors Facebook group advised everyone to get a fishing license. In New York, the fine for fishing without a license can be up to $250 for failing to register or carry a recreational marine license or registry card, according to the DEC.
Fishing is prohibited at night from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise except when permitted in specific situations.
