A popular Riverwest cafe is cleaning up after vandals targeted their business.Someone threw a rock into the window of Seven Swans Creperie, in broad daylight, Tuesday afternoon.The owner, Kate Bryan, spoke exclusively to 12 News.”There’s been an upswing in crime in the neighborhood in general. We have gotten the brunt of that. Two days ago we got a rock through our window.”A massive rock, thrown through their front glass door. Unfortunately, that’s not all.”We had an employee assaulted just right outside our door, after hours, he was coming to do work on some stuff, his car was stolen. Shortly after, my car was stolen. Had to buy a new one and then the windows were smashed in that one,” she explained.Seven Swans is Bryan’s second restaurant. She opened the first in Kansas City five years ago, and the Milwaukee location a year and a half ago.”I’m from Milwaukee. I missed Milwaukee. My whole family is here, so when this space opened up in my family’s neighborhood, I jumped on the opportunity.”She’s proud to be home, despite the recent struggles. “It’s really unsettling. It’s disappointing, and it’s hard, and it’s sad.”She added extra security cameras for peace of mind, and wants a bigger police presence. “With the number of incidents that have happened it’s disappointing I don’t see more patrolling happening,” she said.When asked how the community can help Seven Swans, she said,”Just pop in and let us take care of you.””It’s scary, but I’m not deterred. In fact, more than anything, I’m determined to stake our claim here,” she added.Milwaukee Police tell me they have made an arrest in one of the robberies. The suspect faces seven felony charges.Police also say there is a directed patrol mission in the Riverwest area.
