REDDING, Calif. – Late Friday night Redding police investigated a report of a broken window at the New Life Discovery Project Thrift Store on Cypress Avenue. A little over an hour later they arrested a suspect for a burglary that occurred there and another burglary that happened the previous day at the Redding Goodwill store.
Police said they found the store window had been smashed and a cash register and other items were taken during the burglary. They also were able to obtain surveillance video of the incident.
The incident happened at 11:26 p.m. on Friday night, Sept. 20, 2024, and Saturday morning by approximately 12:40 a.m. an officer recognized someone that looked similar to the suspect seen on the surveillance video.
Officers arrested 30-year-old Daren Cole. They said Cole had stolen property from the store in his possession at the time of the arrest.
According to police Cole confessed to the burglary, and to another one that occurred at the Goodwill store just the day before. They said the suspect in the Goodwill burglary had accessed the business from the roof and had stolen several items.
In addition to the two counts of burglary, Cole was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
