The Killer’s Game—a box office bust starring Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff and Ben Kingsley—is coming soon to digital streaming.
Directed by Day Shift director J.J. Perry, the R-rated action comedy opened in theaters on September 13. The film also stars Sofia Boutella, Scott Adkins and Terry Crews.
Released by Lionsgate, the logline for The Killer’s Game reads, “When top hitman Joe Flood (Bautista) is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he decides to take matters into his own hands—by taking a hit out on himself. But when the very hitmen he hired also target his ex-girlfriend (Boutella), he must fend off an army of assassin colleagues and win back the love of his life before it’s too late.”
According to When to Stream, The Killer’s Game is expected to be released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Friday, October 4. Typically accurate with its streaming release date reports, When to Stream noted that Lionsgate has not officially announced or confirmed the PVOD release date and it is subject to change.
Per Prime Video, The Killer’s Game is available for pre-order for $24.99 on PVOD. Pre-order prices are typically a reflection of the PVOD purchase price and digital rentals are typically $5 less. As such, viewers can expect to rent The Killer’s Game for $19.99 for a 48-hour period that begins once the renter begins watching the movie.
The Killer’s Game will also be available on PVOD on a variety of digital platforms, including AppleTV+ and VUDU.
How Was ‘The Killer’s Game’ Received By Audiences And Critics?
According to The Numbers, The Killer’s Game has earned $3.8 million domestically and more than $262,000 internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $4 million since opening in theaters on September 13.
Deadline reports that The Killer’s Game had a production budget of less than $30 million before prints and advertising.
Rotten Tomatoes critics collectively gave The Killer’s Game a 43% “rotten” rating based on 40 reviews. The RT Critics’ Consensus for the movie reads, “While it can be commended for refreshingly casting the reliable Dave Bautista in a romantic role, this otherwise tepid hitman comedy doesn’t make many inventive moves on the board.”
RT users reacted much more favorably to The Killer’s Game, giving it an 81% “fresh” rating based on 250-plus verified ratings.
The Killer’s Game is still playing in theaters and is expected to debut on PVOD on October 4.
