Gardaí are urging Limerick business owners to review the controls for their security shutters.
Security shutters are commonly used by businesses like jewellers, pharmacies, garages, or shops with high-value goods. These shutters offer strong protection; provided the controls are inside the building or the shutter is securely bolted to the ground.
This warning follows a recent break-in in Limerick, where CCTV footage showed a thief, wearing gloves and a face covering, tampering with the shutter’s electrical box and successfully opening it before smashing the interior glass door to gain entry.
Speaking on Limerick Today, Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station, gave important advice to local retailers: “Retail premises should ask their security company for a review of their shutters and if the controls are outside they can be moved inside and remotely operated at the close of business.”
