Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has left fans scratching their heads after dropping a fresh trailer for his new festive film, Red One. The movie, set to hit screens later this year, will feature the ex-WWE champ alongside a Marvel legend in a holiday-themed adventure.
A three-minute teaser was revealed on Monday (September 23), showcasing Chris Evans, famed for his role as Captain America, embroiled in a covert operation to save Santa Claus, aka Red One, portrayed by J. K. Simmons, from a mysterious abduction.
Evans’ character, hailed as the world’s top tracker, is compelled to join forces with the North Pole’s chief of security (Johnson) and a polar bear to liberate Father Christmas from his captors. Along the way, they’re set to encounter a host of supernatural entities, including some menacing snowmen.

For those with a keen eye, the trailer offers a sneak peek at the nefarious character played by Kiernan Shipka, celebrated for her role as Sabrina on Netflix, reports the Mirror.
Yet, the latest sneak-peek has left fans befuddled for several reasons. Some can’t shake the feeling that they’ve already seen the film or that it had been released already, while others are puzzled by the absence of any mention of a streaming service.
One fan exclaimed: “I thought this was going straight to streaming, either way I’m excited for it.” Another, baffled, commented on X: “Didn’t this movie come out like a year ago? Am I crazy? “.
The confusion surrounding the release of Red One can be attributed to a change in its original release plan. Initially set for an Amazon Prime release in 2023, it was delayed to 2024 due to strikes by the American actor’s union in Hollywood, with plans now including an exclusive cinema run.
Adding to the confusion, some fans believed they had seen Simmons portray Santa Claus before. In reality, Simmons lent his voice to the character of Klaus in a 2019 Netflix Christmas animation.
Fans are eagerly anticipating a new addition to their usual Christmas film rotation, which typically includes Home Alone and Die Hard. With a reported budget of $250m, the studios will be banking on a successful box office return when Red One hits cinemas on November 15, 2024.
