Planning a Sharknado marathon? Watching all six movies back-to-back will take you around nine hours with the end of Sharknado 3 being a good place for a break. Adding the two Lavalantula movies and 2025 Armageddon to the list will increase that time to 13 hours, so it may be a good idea to spread the creature fun out over two or even three nights.
What Are the Spin-Offs of ‘Sharknado’?
The Sharknado franchise has three official spin-offs. Lavalantula and its sequel, 2 Lava 2 Lantula, revolve around the sudden appearance of giant, fire-spitting tarantulas after a volcanic eruption. Both Lavalantula movies share the same continuity as the Sharknado movies and take place within the same cinematic universe.
2025 Armageddon is a kind of meta celebration of the Sharknado franchise and other creature films made by the studio, The Asylum. It’s set within its own continuity in a world similar to our own where the Sharknado movies are known only as movies.
Throughout the film, monsters and situations from Asylum movies begin to manifest in real life, and the characters try to work out why any of this is happening.
2025 Armageddon is a non-canon celebration of Sharknado and similar movies. It’s not an entry in the official Sharknado timeline.
What’s the Best ‘Sharknado’ Watch Order?
All of the Sharknado movies are fairly standalone with very little knowledge of other entries required to enjoy or understand what’s going on. However, if you’re planning to watch every Sharknado movie and you want to follow everything chronologically, all you need to do is watch the films in the order that they were released.
Unlike the Wolverine movies, the Sharknado franchise has no prequels or time-travel shenanigans to worry about.
Is There a ‘Sharknado’ TV Show?
There isn’t a Sharknado TV series. However, there are a large number of shark TV series, specials, and documentaries due to the overwhelming popularity of the animal and the Sharknado movies.
The cause of the confusion around the existence of a Sharknado TV series is likely due to the fact that all of the Sharknado movies are made-for-TV movies created by the SyFy channel. All of the films originally aired on TV, and it’s not a stretch to imagine that some viewers saw the commercials for the movies and assumed that they were for a new TV series instead.
How Many ‘Sharknado’ Movies Are There?
There are six Sharknado movies, two Lavalantula movies, and 2025 Armageddon for a total of nine entries in the Sharknado franchise. 2025 Armageddon is a non-canon celebration of the series while the other eight films share the same cinematic universe.
Is ‘Sharknado’ Based On a True Story?
The first Sharknado movie was created purely as a fun popcorn flick for viewers to enjoy and wasn’t inspired by any real-life events of tornados collecting sharks and throwing them at people. However, there are numerous recorded instances of fish, spiders, frogs, jellyfish, and even octopuses falling from the sky. This phenomenon is referred to as a rain of animals and likely inspired Sharknado tangentially.
The phenomenon of tornados collecting animals is very real, though there’s yet to be a recording of one picking up sharks. A sharknado is a fictitious concept for now.
