CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Some neighborhoods are far away from a library, and many libraries lack literature for Spanish-language readers. A recent donation to a Charlottesville non-profit will help lower both of those barriers.
The Free Book Bus received a donation from the Isabel Allende Foundation to help diversify its collection.
“The Isabel Allende Foundation approached us and asked if we’d be interested and I said yes, because we have two stops now, both Southwood and Townwood, that are predominantly Spanish-speaking adults,” Free Book Bus owner and director Sharon Stone said.
“It’s something that will appeal to the adults who get on the bus because often they’ll just get books for their kids because the ones I have are pretty limited in Spanish,” Stone said
Stone says she does weekly stops in communities – serving hundreds of people.
“So we go to public housing, we go to food pantries, we go to small specialty schools where they might be too small to have a library, and also just neighborhood stops and some school stops,” Stone said.
The Free Book Bus does accept books without wear.
