What is a Hokie?
Virginia Tech’s mascot is a derivative of a wild turkey. The term ‘Hokie’ dates back to 1896, when a school name change started a contest for a new cheer. O.M. Stull won the contest with his ‘Hokie’ yell, a term he said was a nonsense word he invented.

The Hokies run onto the field to Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’. The tradition start in 2000.
