Approved: Funding for Poinsett Highway improvements
Council voted on a reallocation of $404,800 from the city’s general fund to its capital fund for the Poinsett Highway Street Improvement project. The goal of the project is to improve amenities for those residing in Travelers Rest but also usher in more tourism. The matter was approved unanimously.
Update: Indie Craft Parade
Travelers Rest will host the Western North Carolina Trade Market’s Indie Craft Parade Nov. 23 in Trailblazer Park. After Hurricane Helene, the trade market was left unable to host the event at its planned location. The city of Travelers Rest is not charging for the use of the park or booth fees. According to Travelers Rest Marketing, Communications and Programs Director Beth Sicignano, the city is also waiving fees.
Approved: Municipal Court judge contract
This matter was brought before the council to renew Rebecca Hand as a municipal court judge. The council unanimously approved this application and approved a motion for a two-year term through November 2026.
Review: Film funding for children’s garden
The city applied for a $5,000 grant to produce a film for a new children’s garden. The application was approved during an Oct. 7 Committee Meeting and reported before council.
