PARKERSBURG — It was a happy ending for the 2024 Trinity Episcopal Church Used Book Sale, said organizers who are already planning the 2025 edition.
Lynn Fury, chairman of the sale, was appreciative of the volunteers and residents.
“Thank you to our wonderful book sale team of volunteers and our amazing community for this book sale success in 2024,” Fury said.
“The book sale raises funds that we use to support church and local community programs. It’s a fantastic opportunity to help others, and treat yourself to some enjoyable reading as well,” she said. “It’s all about good books at good prices supporting good works.”
The Trinity Episcopal book sale committee is finalizing the list of local programs and services to receive funding. In previous years, proceeds supported activities and organizations including the church’s Monday Meals program, the American Red Cross, Literacy Volunteers and the Humane Society of Parkersburg, among others.
From 10,000 to 15,000 hardcovers and paperbacks were available for the 2024 sale. Books were in numerous genres including classic literature, westerns, history, mysteries and children’s stories.
The sale continued Take A Chance, paperbacks wrapped in paper, hiding the title and author’s name, with a note giving hints about the book.
Introduced for the first time at the 2024 sale was the Nightmare Before Christmas themed door prize. Participants had to be present at the book sale on Oct. 3 to enter the free one-day-only drawing.
The winning entry was Lisa Finnell, who recently moved to the Mid-Ohio Valley and was attending the Trinity Episcopal Used Book Sale for the first time.
Volunteers will take a brief rest before turning the page to next year’s event.
“We will begin taking books for next year’s sale the first Wednesday in June 2025, 10:30 to noon,” Fury said.
