Director Vyaan Varma Jammula has tried with his film to show how people who have a nefarious agenda create fear in others. He also highlights the need to save gullible people from superstitions. He has worn multiple hats – writing the script, screenplay, dialogues, directing and playing the lead role – for this movie.
The movie revolves around a haunted mall – Maarnudi – on Karnataka-Maharashtra border. People believe that the mall is inhabited by ghosts. Because of that, no one comes forward to do business at the mall. Chandrasekhar approaches Vyasavan Krishna aka Krishna (Vyaan Varma Jammula), a ghost hunter who owns a come to reality (CTR) organisation. After a few false starts, Krishna takes up the assignment himself. Will he succeed in revealing the truth is what the movie Maantrika is all about.
The movie has very few actors and they have tried their best to showcase their acting skills as per their capacity. We must appreciate Jammula for playing the lead role while directing the film. The movie highlights the advantages of technology and how the real estate mafia cheats gullible landowners by creating fake documents. Had the director focused on cinematography and background score, the movie would have been a good entertainment for the audiences who love to watch movies with elements such as horror, thriller, and suspense.
But as it stands, it is not really a worthwhile watch.
