The first snapshots from the eagerly anticipated Peaky Blinders film have surfaced, showing stars back on set in Birmingham. Cillian Murphy is once again donning the iconic flat cap as Tommy Shelby in the beloved period drama.
The Oscar-winning actor, recognised for his stellar performance in ‘Oppenheimer’, was captured on horseback in Cornwall Street this afternoon, Monday, October 21, sporting the character’s signature look, reports Birmingham Live.
Murphy, aged 48, was seen with a streak of fake blood on his face and dressed in a suit and jacket that seemed to be heavily soiled with mud. In another scene, he was spotted engaging with the series’ creator and director, Steven Knight. Joining Murphy in the cinematic adaptation are newcomers Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson, and Tim Roth, building on the success of the six-season run on BBC.

As filming unfolded, fans clamoured for a view of the action, anticipating the movie’s release on Netflix. Hayley Morris, a 19 year old student and avid fan of Peaky Blinders, shared her excitement earlier: “The film crews have tried to keep it all hush-hush but we all knew it was for Peaky Blinders. I’m so excited for the movie and hopefully we’ll get a glimpse of Cillian.”
She added, “It’s brilliant they are filming lots of it in Birmingham, as that’s where it’s all set. It can only be a good thing for the city. Peaky Blinders already brings us loads of tourists but now we have Hollywood stars here, it’s amazing.”
Parking restrictions were implemented on Sunday evening and are set to conclude at 6pm on Tuesday, October 22, due to filming by Oblik Productions Ltd in the vicinity. The television series, which aired from 2013 to 2022, chronicled the ascension of the Shelby family following World War I.
The film is anticipated to continue the family’s saga a few years later, during the onset of World War II.
