Small Business Week is running from October 20 to 26 across Canada and the Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce is celebrating big on Oct. 24.
The 2024 Airdrie Regional Business Awards Gala will celebrate and support business success in the Airdrie region.
Over 150 businesses were nominated for 10 award categories this year, including Business of the Year, Community Attraction, Community Spirit, Greatest Impact, Emerging Business, Employer Excellence, Exemplary Service, Innovation, Legacy Business, and Community Spirit Award.
Out of those 150 nominations, 45 finalists were chosen and announced last month. The winner of each category will be awarded on Thursday.
“Every nominee is truly deserving, and we are extremely proud of each finalist, as they represent the heart of our business community,” stated Marilyne Aalhus, Executive Director of the Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce along with the finalist announcement. “We are also thrilled to see several businesses from the Rocky View County region among the nominees this year. As our Chamber and region continue to grow, these awards reflect our commitment to recognizing and supporting the organizations we serve.”

Several other events are going on in Airdrie this week that support small businesses and entrepreneurship.
Airdrie’s economic development officer, Tara Levick, said, “As always, we are encouraging residents and businesses to shop local and support local when they can.”
The Airdrie Entrepreneur Common’s Discover Program starts tonight, Oct 22, and runs until Dec. 5 with four two-hour sessions and four one-hour virtual labs.
The eight week program will help entrepreneurs build a viable business. People with a business idea, as well as entrepreneurs and small businesses can apply to the program at airdriecommon.ca/discover/.
The 2024 SMARTstart Celebration is also happening this week and applications for the 2025 program have already launched. For more information head to airdriecommon.ca/smart-start-airdrie/.
SMARTstart is a made-in-Airdrie entrepreneurial training program offering tools, mentorship and business planning. The program is for people with a validated business idea and owners who have been in business for less than three years.
On top of those events, the City of Airdrie stated there will also be a Consumer Retail Survey running that closes on Oct. 25. Both residents and businesses can complete the survey at involve.airdrie.ca/retailsurvey.
