PORTAGE, Mich. — After five-and-a-half years of business in Portage, Traveler’s Craft BBQ and Whiskey Bar is closing its doors on Oct. 31.
“I wish we could keep it open, but right now, that’s just not going to happen,” owner Brandon Jeannot said in a video posted on Facebook Wednesday. “We are going to be hopefully looking forward to something else in the future, but right now it’s just not our time.”
Opening at 5225 Portage Road in 2019, Traveler’s BBQ and Whiskey Bar offers community members “culinary excellence meets Southern charm.”
From smoked meats to homemade sauces and side dishes, “each bite tells a story of tradition and flavor,” the restaurant’s website detailed.
Those who have not tried Traveler’s BBQ, and others who want to support the restaurant, still have time to stop by before the store’s doors close for the last time, according to Jeannot.
“We will continue to serve any groups we have for the remainder of this month, as well as we will be open Tuesday through Saturday until Oct. 31 to allow you guys to enjoy our barbeque, enjoy our drinks, and to come in and support our staff,” Jeannot said.
In addition to thanking the Kalamazoo, Portage, Mattawan and surrounding communities for five-and-a-half years of support, Jeannot extended a “heartfelt gratefulness” to his staff, who “made this place amazing.”
“You have made this place great. I’m sad that we’re down to the point that we’re going to be closing,” Jeannot said. “Thank you so much. I can’t imagine, can’t express how appreciative I am of you sticking with me, working through this, making this a great place to be.”
Traveler’s BBQ and Whiskey Bar will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 4-9 p.m., though Oct. 31.
