Get ready to choose from more than 20,000 books at Bonner School in Mill Bay at the 16th Garden House Book Sale on Saturday, Oct. 26.
The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27.
Books will be organized by subject, including 5,000 children’s books, with most ranging in price from 50 cents to $3. There will also be silent auction books, musical scores, puzzles, CDs and DVDs to browse.
The Garden House permanent fund has reached a milestone this year by passing the $200,000 mark, the group said in a press release for the sale. Annual grants from the fund support distressed Cowichan Valley families by helping to provide counselling and many other services. The grants, which will be given in perpetuity, also support Cowichan Valley pets and farm animals in need of emergency support.
More than 100 South Cowichan students and staff from Bonner School and Brentwood College will lend their energy to help set up and dismantle the sale. Dozens of other adult volunteers spend many hours unpacking and displaying books, working on sale days and sharing information on social media.
“RONA Cobble Hill deserves a special thanks for always providing the large trolleys that are used to move the boxes into the sale room at Bonner as does the Cowichan School District’s Maintenance Department, which provides and delivers the sale tables,” the press release said.
“Buyers from the South Island and beyond say they appreciate the welcoming and calm atmosphere, predictable set-up and wide aisles that easily accommodate those with walkers or wheelchairs. We hope to see you there!”
