TOURISM contributed a total of $3.22billion to Fiji’s economy last year, according to the 2023 International Visitor Survey (IVS) released last month.
This, according to a statement by Tourism Fiji, represented a 46 percent increase from 2022.
“This reflects not only the demand for Fiji as a travel destination but also the strategic efforts by Tourism Fiji to ensure the country’s continued success in a competitive global market,” it stated.
Visitor arrivals for the year was 929,740, surpassing 2022 arrivals, a milestone achieved 12 months ahead of target.
As Government’s tourism marketing arm, Tourism Fiji said it will build on the successes of 2023 while addressing key challenges.
“Shorter stays are contributing to increased daily spend, but we aim to explore ways to lengthen stays and encourage repeat visits,” it stated.
“Additionally, the IVS data highlights a need to expand accessibility, particularly for travellers with disabilities, and further promote Fiji’s sustainability initiatives.
“With a focus on authentically sharing our culture, inclusivity, responsible tourism, and personalised experiences, Tourism Fiji remains dedicated to ensuring Fiji remains a top destination for travellers seeking adventure, relaxation, and cultural connection, and continues to support local communities and businesses.”
