The Palmyra Area School District board in Lebanon County on Thursday discussed the results of investigations into a secret library that was discovered inside the high school.Katryna Griffin – a former nurse at the school – said she was the one who found the library, which was in the possession of the advisor of the Sexuality and Gender Alliance club.”The book was handed to me May 30, 2024,” Griffin said.Griffin said she was stunned by the book’s content.”When I went through and saw the vulgarity and profanity within this book, I was shocked. One book handed to me contained very graphic sexual content, derogatory terms, and detailed explanations of explicit acts, including depictions of BDSM and other inappropriate behaviors,” Griffin said.Griffin said she delivered the book to her administrators the following morning.She doesn’t think it’s OK to have explicit books in the reach of high school students.”I actually would advocate for, instead of a secret library, a set of curated resources for our students, for parents, so that we could absolutely encourage these open discussions in a healthy, open way,” she said.The school board said it conducted an immediate investigation after the incident and a second investigation when the topic was brought up in the last board meeting.Board members said there is no evidence the book referenced was ever in the possession of students or in their presence. It wasn’t part of the SAGA club’s private collection of books.The board also found that no students in the SAGA club violated district policy or any laws.The school district confiscated the secret library.
