A group of foreign tourists from Russia and Kazakhstan arrived in Preah Sihanouk province on Friday via Sunday Airlines, a charter airline.
Senior officials of the province greeted the arrival of the first charted flight. Passengers on board were welcomed with flowers and Khmer scarfs as gifts and Chhay Yam traditional dance.
Long Dimanche, deputy governor of Preah Sihanouk province, said the arrival of this group of international visitors signifies a growing interest in Cambodia’s tourism sector among Eastern European travellers.
“They chose the location of Preah Sihanouk province to relax as a family with both old and young and young children. Preah Sihanouk is a beautiful area with many islands, all of which are attractive,” he said.
This is the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic that such a large number of foreign tourists have visited the province through an airport.
In the coming days, more charter flights carrying foreign tourists from Eastern Europe are also scheduled to arrive in Cambodia, added the deputy governor. AKP
