BACOLOD CITY — The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) has named Bacolod City as the country’s most business-friendly local government unit (LGU).
Bacolod bested four other finalists — Iloilo, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro and Mandaue — to clinch the title in the Provincial Highly-Urbanized Cities category during the awarding ceremony held as part of the PCCI’s 50th Business Conference and Expo at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City on October 23.
As the 2024 City Level 1B winner, the PCCI recognized Bacolod “for its exceptional commitment to fostering a vibrant and business-friendly environment that stimulates growth and innovation.”
“This award honors the City Government of Bacolod for its exemplary policies, initiatives and services that empower local entrepreneurs, attract investments and promote sustainable economic development, establishing it as a benchmark for effective governance and catalyst for progress in the community,” the PCCI added.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez hailed the city’s recent award as a “victory for all Bacolodnons.”
“This is a victory for all Bacolodnons as we continue to drive growth, innovation and opportunities in our city,” Benitez said in a statement.
Benitez, who received the award on behalf of the city, said he is “honored to receive the recognition, which reflects the commitment of Bacolod to creating an environment where businesses can thrive.”
“This achievement reflects our hard work in creating a city that welcomes business and fosters growth,” the mayor stressed.
It was Bacolod’s third Most Business-Friendly LGU Award after winning the same top honors in 2021 and 2007.
Frances Mae Llamas, head of the Department of Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions, said the recognition affirmed the city’s initiatives to nurture the business environment and fortify its partnership with the business sector to empower businesses and enrich lives.
Llamas thanked the local business community, including the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Bacolod Entrepreneurs United, for bringing more economic and employment opportunities to Bacolod.
