The federal government is promoting a new service from the Canada Revenue Agency that is designed to help business owners and self-employed individuals save time and money while enhancing their local operation.
Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré said the new service is provided free by a liaison officer who will work with business owners to help them better understand their tax obligation and make informed decisions.
A news release from Serré’s office said a session with a liaison officer can be booked online.
This service is also confidential, ensuring that any information shared with a Liaison Officer will not be disclosed to other CRA departments or any external parties, said the release.
“By working closely with the business community and providing essential services like this, we help build a stronger economy. When businesses have access to the tools and support they need, their chances of success increase,” said Serré.
“This service complements other federal measures like the Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP), the Canada Carbon Rebate for Small Businesses, the reduction of the small business tax rate from 11 per cent to 9 per cent, and many more initiatives prioritized by the government to support small and medium-sized businesses,” said the news release.
The Liaison Officer Service offers two options:
• Request a personalized visit – Available in person, by phone, or online through Microsoft Teams.
• Organize an in-person seminar or online webinar – Ideal for business associations or groups. During a visit, seminar, or webinar, the Liaison Officer will:
• Help you understand your tax obligations and identify potential business deductions
• Explain general bookkeeping concepts and best practices
• Show you how to avoid common tax errors
• Provide an overview of CRA’s online tools and services
• Answer your tax-related questions
• Demonstrate how to use Financial Performance Data to compare your business performance to others in your industry
