A working group dedicated to promoting tourism in Magnesia, part of the Thessaly region, was recently formed following a teleconference between the regional unit’s local stakeholders and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
Initiated by the Hotel Owners’ Association of Magnesia, the teleconference aimed to strengthen tourism efforts in the region. Participants included representatives from local tourism bodies nd the GNTO’s new Secretary General, Andreas Fiorentinos; General Director for Organization and Promotion, Sofia Lazaridou; and Director for Tourism Promotion, Eleni Mitraki.
During the discussion, it was agreed to establish a working group involving the GNTO, the hotelier’s association, the Chamber of Magnesia, and the Municipality of Volos. The group will focus on promoting Volos/Nea Aghialos Airport, co-advertising with airlines interested in the wider region (Pieria, Evia, Lamia, and Larissa), collaborating with airlines to attract new flights, and creating an advertising campaign for Magnesia.

The teleconference also addressed key issues and challenges facing the region, including the need for standardized star ratings for hotel accommodations and enhanced collaboration with international tourism offices.
Particular attention was given to the climate resilience fee, with the Magnesia Hotel Association advocating for its temporary suspension in light of recent natural disasters affecting the area.
