Trident Technical College (TTC) President Dr. Vicky Wood attended the Apprenticeship Ambassador Recognition Ceremony Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the White House in Washington, D.C. The U.S. Department of Labor recognized current and new Apprentice Ambassadors for exceeding their commitments to expand and diversify Registered Apprenticeships.
Trident Technical College is part of the first Apprenticeship Ambassadors cohort, announced July 12, 2022. TTC and Apprenticeship Carolina were the only two Ambassadors in the first cohort representing South Carolina. On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Labor added 138 new organizations for 441 Apprenticeship Ambassadors since the initiative’s launch. Apprenticeship Ambassadors help to modernize Registered Apprenticeships by making specific commitments to sponsor promotional and training activities, conduct outreach to underrepresented populations, launch Registered Apprenticeship Programs and hire apprentices.
Trident Technical College’s Division of Apprenticeships and Employer Partnerships offers adult and youth apprenticeships. In 2014, the Charleston Regional Youth Apprenticeships (CRYA) program was created at TTC, where regional employers provide rising high school juniors, seniors and graduating seniors the opportunity to learn and receive paid on-the-job training along with related classroom instruction at TTC.
“Apprenticeships assist tri-county companies in growing their workforce and provide students with relevant technical training and paid work experience. We value the 85 employers who partner with Trident Tech to support 400 adult and youth apprentices enrolled in the program,” Wood said. “We are committed to aiding in the growth of apprenticeships across the nation and look forward to growing our apprenticeship programs at TTC.”
