Netflix aficionados are on the hunt for the latest horror films to deliver chills this Halloween season.
This year has seen a plethora of hair-raising Hollywood productions, with big-screen sensations like Longlegs and Smile 2 (still showing in cinemas) and critically-acclaimed body horror film The Substance, as well as streaming treasures like Don’t Move and The Deliverance.
As Halloween looms large, fans of frights and thrills are gearing up, either to hit the town in ghastly get-up, join in with trick-or-treating festivities, or simply gather some fear-inspiring fashion.
Nonetheless, plenty will opt to snuggle up indoors, perhaps huddled with loved ones, binging classic horrors or bravely embarking on a solo movie marathon filled with fright.
Those with a Netflix account seeking out fresh terror to watch (possibly from behind their hands) should note the release of Sting, the supernatural thriller landing on the platform Thursday (October 31), reports the Mirror.
Spider-phobics be warned: Sting brings the giant arachnid genre back into the spotlight. Horror enthusiasts have lauded its “excellent” new twist since the film’s premiere earlier this year.
Praise has cascaded in, with one enthusiastic Google review stating: “Excellent creature feature that would feel right at home in the 90s. The family is incredibly believable and the supporting cast are well rounded and fun to watch.”
“The movie is much more gruesome than I expected which is always a plus and Sting itself looks great and is practical a decent portion of the time. A very fun time at the movies for sure!”
Another viewer commented: “I enjoyed it thoroughly. Some fun and creative ideas. A few jump scares, and good old fashioned practical effects mixed in with the CGI give it almost an old school feel as well as the modern.”
A third fan exclaimed: “Loved it! I’m so glad I watched this in a well lit room and not sitting in a darkened movie theater…wondering if something is crawling up the back of my seat. Great fun!”
