Byron, Ga (WGXA) – This Saturday, the Byron community is invited to a special celebration honoring the Little Free Library, located at Jail House Park. The event, organized by local resident Cherie Giles, is free and open to everyone. With giveaways, games, numerous vendors, and live music by John Mark Graves, it promises to be a fun-filled day for all ages.
Giles started the Little Free Library as a tribute to her late mother, who fostered a love of reading in her from a young age. “I cannot put into words exactly how much this means and the community that supports it,” Giles shared. “I have books waiting at home to put in the library that I don’t have room for because the community keeps it full.”
Giles says that Saturday’s event also holds a deeper meaning, as it falls on the eve of what would have been her mother’s birthday. She sees this gathering as a beautiful way to celebrate her mother’s memory by encouraging the community to share and enjoy books.
While donations of books are not required, they are welcome and encouraged to help keep the library stocked. The celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jail House Alley.
