ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A beloved bookstore turns the page after returning from a major setback at a new location.
To celebrate their return, Drewelow’s House of Books is offering giveaways, raffles, and deals during a two-day grand opening event Nov. 1-2.
Originally located on Charles Street, Drewelow’s was forced to move when damaging floods hit the area. The property owners decided to have the building demolished, leaving the book lovers to pack up and move their 200,000 books to their new location at 3925 E. State St. Suite #100 in Rockford.
While this may have closed the book for good for some people, owner Patricia Drewelow is using the setback as the start of an even better sequel.
“What you go through, the struggles you go through, it just makes you stronger,” Patricia says. “My husband says he wouldn’t change anything he’s done in life because it makes him who he is today.”
Wanda Castillo is a long-time customer of Drewelow’s. She was one of the first people through the door when the sign turned to “OPEN.” She says she and her sister exchange books often, and sometimes they even bring books to Patricia.
“She gives us credit for books that we bring in and in turn we look at all the books that she has,” Castillo says. “She thinks of us, she’s just a really, really nice person.”
From rare Stephen King’s to first addition paperbacks, Patricia believes there is something for everyone in her store. Even goods like merchandise, jewelry, stones and more.
She says her story is just beginning.
“It’s funny, people say, “I don’t read,” and this is one thing that I’m like “You don’t read?” then I’m like “Okay well what have you tried reading?” Patricia says. “Well, we just need to find something you like. What are your interests?”
Patricia tells WIFR for the first time they will be hosting a silent book club. That will take place on Nov. 19.
