Last May, 11 Lincoln High School students traveled with LHS French Teacher Bailey Hacker-Powell and Science Teacher Rene LaMontagna to France. For the beginning of their two week trip, students stayed with families in Vincennes, Indiana’s sister city, Vincennes, France, and attended classes at their sister school “Notre Dame de la Providence” in the southeast suburb of Paris. During their family stay, students were able to experience everyday life with their hosts, go to classes, and tour the sites of Paris, Hacker-Powell said.
LHS Senior Gage Hagood said spending time and making a connection with his host family was the most memorable part of the trip. He found he and his host played the same video games, and were even able to exchange Vincennes Fire Department shirts from the sister cities. Ellie Blue, a junior at LHS, said she felt her host “had a lot more freedom, at school, at home and just in general. She would walk to school on her own every morning and every night, she left school when she needed to and it seemed very nice to have that much freedom!”
