Bev’s Donuts to add a Wadena bakery
Bev’s Donuts of Battle Lake seems to be expanding faster than a perfectly mixed batch of raised doughnut dough.
The Forum ran a story about the doughnut shop last week
, after owner McKayla Schicker announced she was offering delivery of her from-scratch doughnuts and sweet rolls to Fargo, Wahpeton and communities throughout western Minnesota.
On the same day, Schicker announced on her Facebook that she plans to open a second bakery, Bev’s Bakehouse, in Wadena, Minnesota.
The addition expands Schicker’s 559-square-foot space in Battle Lake to nearly 3,000 square feet at the site of a former Wadena bakery at 205 Jefferson St.
Schicker assured her customers that she will continue running her Battle Lake location as well as making deliveries. But the expanded space allows her to broaden her menu to include sweets like cakes, cupcakes, cheesecakes, holiday pies, gingerbread houses and other special treats.

Schicker also mentioned possibly expanding to add stuffed croissants, rosettes, bagels, soups and lunches.
“This felt so right timing-wise and financially for this effortless decision to come to play for the growth of the business,” Schicker wrote in her post. “Back to the roots of a full bakery!”
Schicker said her doughnuts are made from a 100-year-old recipe used by her mother, Janet Schicker, when she ran a bakery in Battle Lake.
According to her post, Schicker hopes to open the Wadena location in mid-November.
The Battle Lake location’s fall hours are from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
