IN THE American 2024 elections, regardless of who wins, the United States will remain politically and socially divided.
It is for that reason that I don’t trust the US as a military ally. It is too unstable, too divided to ever be a reliable ally, at least in the immediate future, and any war in our backyard will likely be a long one.
Right now, the American Nation and the American Empire are in conflict with one another. This polarization will not end in 2024. I think it will continue to escalate, spreading to other Western countries, forcing their elites to turn inward to manage their internal affairs. This means they will become less reliable allies in other regions, which is why it’s best not to rely on them, least of all in an extended war.
Indeed, I think they are likely to escalate tensions after the election, straining institutions and legitimacy among large portions of the electorate. How it will end is anyone’s guess, but I think it will undermine the US’ ability to wage war or perhaps, a less diplomatically engaged America.
This does not mean that the U.S. will suddenly abandon its commitments and allies. Rather, it will become more indifferent, particularly in places where it has no interests.
But it’s also worth mentioning that the United States is not unique in its political instability. Russia, China and other Western nations have their own concerns, some perhaps even worse, but the point here is that the Philippines should not rely on the US for support alone. I’ve written about this subject before, but it’s even more important now.
Don’t forget. Donald Trump nearly got assassinated twice. That danger will not go away any time soon./PN
