Donald Trump’s most-recognised cameo in a beloved Christmas movie franchise is currently available to stream on Disney+.
The projected 47th president of the United States has a history in film, famously appearing in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York with Macaulay Culkin.
Released in December 1992, the sequel follows Kevin McCallister as he becomes separated from his family again. This time, they are at the airport, and Kevin accidentally boards a flight to New York while the rest of his family heads to Miami.
Kevin checks into the Plaza Hotel using his father’s credit card and bumps into a passer-by, played by Trump, at the hotel entrance.

Unsure where to go, Kevin asks the passer-by, “Excuse me, where’s the lobby?” Trump replies, “Down the hall and to the left.”
Despite the cameo lasting only a few seconds, it sparked controversy in 2023 when director Chris Columbus told Business Insider that Trump had ‘bullied’ his way into the comedy.
Columbus claimed: “[We] paid the fee, but he [Trump] also said, “The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.” He added: “So we agreed to put him in the movie.” He later confirmed: “But he did bully his way into the movie.”
Trump responded to the criticism by claiming that the film crew had requested his cameo. He wrote on his social media platform Truth Social: “30 years ago (how time flies!). Director Chris Columbus and others were begging me to make a cameo appearance in Home Alone 2. They rented the Plaza Hotel in New York, which I owned at the time.”
“I was very busy, and didn’t want to do it. They were very nice, but above all, persistent. I agreed, and the rest is history!”.

Trump also revealed that people still contact him about the minor role, especially during the Christmas period.
While the first movie is widely considered a classic, Lost in New York also has a loyal following. And now, 32 years on from the film’s release, fans continue to sing its praises.
On Letterboxd, one wrote: “It’s truly not Christmas until you hear the McCallisters realising they’re late and running to the airport chaos music. What a tune.”
Some noted that the sequel adopts a more violent tone, stating: “The traps are even more brutal than those in [the movie] Saw.” Another agreed: “Kevin must’ve thought he didn’t brutalise Marv enough the first time, so he decided to step up his game this time around.”
Culkin starred alongside Hollywood heavy-hitters Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek), Joe Pesci (Goodfellas) and John Heard (Prison Break). The comedy is the third highest-grossing film of 1992.
Trump has also appeared in hit TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alongside Will Smith and in HBO’s Sex and the City.
