The influx of tourists to the Inwa region, which is rich in ancient cultural heritage, has increased significantly in this year’s open season, and there could be more tourists in Tazaungdine, said an Inwa-based writer and historian Bo Shake.
“There has been a steady influx of tourists since the end of the full moon of Thadingyut. I don’t know the exact number. Most of them are domestic tourists. Even the parking lots were crowded during Thadingyut. Inwa is quiet and convenient because it is close to Mandalay and the expressway. It can also be crowded with tourists during Tazaungdine. On religious holidays, Inwa can be more crowded,” he said.
Most of the tourists are from Mandalay, Yangon Regions and nearby areas. There was a large increased number of domestic tourists to Inwa this year, compared to last year. In the Inwa region, daily cleaning activities are carried out by dividing them into zones and the areas with more tourists can have more income generating opportunities, he added.
During this year’s open season, many domestic tourists enjoyed visiting Bagan-Popa, Kyaiktiyo, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw for pilgrimages, and Chaungtha and Ngwesaung beaches. Domestic tourists are also preparing to travel to the local destinations, including Taunggyi festival, during the coming Tazaungdine holidays.
