He began his career in Hollywood as a child star, appearing in a notable number of films in the 1990s prior to morphing into a rap music-fueled pop culture staple at the turn of the millennium.
And he was recently seen looking much different as he appeared New York Comic Con 2024 October 18 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
The Vancouver, Canada-born actor, who turned 46 in September, cut a casual look in a textured gray blazer over a navy blue shirt with black rimmed glasses and his brown locks cut short.
He appeared on a panel for the horror streaming service Shudder titled Shudder is here to Scare the S*** Out of You.
Alongside him on the panel was actress Kate Siegel, actress Tina Romero, musical artist-producer Flying Lotus and actor-writer David Dastmalchian.
The person in question is actor Devon Sawa, who appeared in 90s films such as Casper, Now and Then, Final Destination, Idle Hands before playing the title role in the music video for the Eminem-Dido track Stan.
Sawa maintains a presence on social media, as he has more than 328,000 followers on his Instagram account and more than 248,000 X/Twitter followers.
Sawa racked up credits as a child star with appearances in multiple Nerf commercials, the 1989 movie Unsub and the 1993 TV film Sherlock Holmes Returns.
He appeared in the 1992’s Little Giants before his breakout role as Casper McFadden in Casper, which hit theaters in May of 1995 and co-starred Bill Pullman, Cathy Moriarty, Christina Ricci and Eric Idle.
Later that year, Sawa reunited with Ricci for the dramatic comedy Now and Then, playing the role of Scott Wormer opposite costars Demi Moore, Rosie O’Donnell, Thora Birch and Melanie Griffith.
Sawa continued to rack up roles throughout the decade, in films such as 1997’s Wild America, 1998’s A Cool, Dry Place, 1998’s SLC Punk!, 1998’s Around the Fire and 1999’s Idle Hands.
He played the role of Alex Browning in the hit horror film Final Destination opposite Ali Larter and Seann William Scott. The movie was released in March of 2000 and made more than $112 million in worldwide box office.
Sawa in 2000 also played an obsessed Eminem fan in the music video for his song Stan. The phrase Stan has become a phrase for overactive fandom in recent years.
Sawa in the aughts appeared in movies such as 2002’s Slackers, 2002’s Extreme Ops, 2005’s Extreme Dating, 2006’s Devil’s Den, 2009’s Creature of Darkness, 2010’s Endure and 2010’s Random Walk.
He’s also appeared in extensive roles on TV shows such as Nikita from 2010-2013, playing the roles of Sam Matthews and Owen Elliot over 32 episodes.
He’s appeared in multiple roles on 20 episodes of the Chucky TV series from 2021–2024, and appeared on the series Hacks in 2022.
Sawa is father to two children with wife Dawni Sahanovitch, son Hudson, 10, and daughter Charlotte, eight.
