Books for Sumter Children press release
Books for Sumter Children, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to early childhood literacy, is inviting the community to support its mission of providing free age-appropriate books to young children across Sumter County. The organization, a Ferst Readers Community Action Team, mails over 600 books each month to children aged from birth to 5 at no cost to families, promoting early literacy and a lifelong love of reading. Since its founding, Books for Sumter Children has delivered more than 123,156 age-appropriate books directly to children’s homes.
As the holiday season approaches, Books for Sumter Children is calling on local businesses, individuals, and organizations to consider the impact of their charitable giving. With a monthly cost of only $3.50 per child—equating to $42 a year—the program ensures children experience the excitement of receiving a book by mail every month. This will ensure our mission to foster a love of reading from an early age, supporting children’s literacy development and preparing them for lifelong learning.
“The gift of a book is more than pages and ink; it’s the foundation for learning, imagination, and lifelong opportunities,” said Kim Christmas. “Through the generous support of our community, we can continue mailing high-quality books to Sumter’s youngest residents, free of charge.”
