Elementary students across the state of Iowa can now read about the story of Caitlin Clark due to an act of generosity by her former coach.
Dickson and Luann Jensen donated 50,000 copies of the book “Just Like Caitlin” to schools across the Hawkeye State and the Indianapolis area. Dickson Jensen was a coach to Clark while she played for All Iowa Attack. Most students got their books on Wednesday, which was World Kindness Day.
What is ‘Just Like Caitlin’ about?
The picture book, written by Ally Obermeier, the Jensens’ daughter and a all-state guard who played at Ballard High School, and illustrated by Makenzie McCarthy, tells the story of how Clark brought a new level of national attention to basketball. It also teaches readers about how losing is a part of the sport but it is still important to remain positive and not give up on your dreams, according to the book’s website.
“The goal of the book is to help kids,” Obermeier told the Ames Tribune this summer. “To tell Caitlin’s story and to help kids. Obviously parents, grandparents and whomever is reading it will hear the story, but specifically, we wanted to reach out to kids.”
Caitlin Clark book donated to every Iowa second grader
More than 40,000 books were donated to kids in Iowa, according to an Instagram post from the book’s account. The donations were intended to give the book to every second grade student in Iowa.
