But that is not the secret to Michael Letts and his nonprofit InVest USA’s success. In fact, they do the opposite.
One of the reasons why InVest USA, which provides free vests to LEOs and first responders, has been in operation for over 30 years is because they continue to adapt, they continue to evolve with the changing times.
Consider the last several years. While the border remained wide open and unchecked, hordes of violent criminals hop-scotched their way right into America. Couple that with progressive DA’s and their pro-criminal policies, along with anti-police liberal politicians, violent crime surged across the country.
And a lot of this violent crime was directed towards law enforcement officers.
But Michael Letts, CEO and Founder of InVest USA and one of America’s leading LEO advocates, is a visionary who anticipated this crime spree epidemic against police and was a step ahead of it all.
He uses his influence within the law enforcement community to help his nonprofit organization thrive which, in turn, helps police officers. And now he is working on new technology that will further help the LEO community and even the general public at large.
“I’ve got great connections [and] have always had great connections all my life. I keep in touch with my people and say, ‘Look, you have a company that builds vests, and here is what I’m hearing out on the streets. Here is what we’re going to need you to do.’ We’re doing things to help all of our officers with every aspect [of police work],” Letts said on a recent podcast interview.
He added, “We’re developing a new defense mechanism. As you know, years ago, we went from instead of just taking out the target, you need to taze them first to make sure you can use the least among of violence. I don’t know that I agree with that but that’s just the way things went.”
Although the idea of using a taser is a reasonable option as a use of force, it is not always practical. Tasers fire two small darts up to approximately 35 feet that can penetrate clothing. In warmer climates and suspects wearing thinner clothing, this can be effective. But in cold climates, people wear thicker, less penetrable jackets and clothing.
Letts is working on a new sidearm that is more effective than a taser, but not as lethal as a handgun.
“We’ve now created a sidearm that is nonlethal but it will knock you down, and knock you out for basically 30 minutes without causing any permanent damage. We’re testing that, it’s already been approved, and it’s fixing to go into production,” Letts said.
And it won’t just be for police officers, it will be for everyone.
“The reason why we’re excited about it because I want to make sure they offer it to the general public as well. There’s a lot of people that say, ‘Look, I wouldn’t mind being armed, but I don’t want to kill somebody.’ This will give you the opportunity to draw the weapon, it’ll have a laser sight on it, with a red dot, just point the dot, fire, then you have plenty of time to get out of that situation,” Letts said.
It is this kind of forward thinking that keeps Letts’ nonprofit InVest USA ahead of the competition. He is never satisfied with average; he pursues relevance and innovation so that the officers walking the beat have the best, most up-to-date technology at their disposal.
