Nizwa – Tender Board has approved funding of RO8.37mn for the Dakhliyah Boulevard project, a comprehensive development initiative in Nizwa. Spanning 145,000sqm, the project aims to boost the local economy and enhance tourism while providing community-centred facilities. It is set to be completed within two years.
Sheikh Hilal bin Saeed al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, described the project as “an embodiment of the ambitious vision for sustainable development and a step towards creating an environment that meets community needs”.
He informed that Dakhliyah Boulevard would serve as an open-air entertainment hub hosting festivals, cultural events and laser shows, and enhance Nizwa’s appeal as a tourist destination.
Key features include a 3,985m main walkway surrounded by green spaces, a 1,650m bicycle path, fountains and an 80,000sqm open area. Additional attractions include a children’s play zone, restaurants, kiosks, retail outlets and a market supporting 60 productive families.
The project is expected to attract approximately 944,000 tourists and visitors annually, generating an estimated RO500,000 in annual revenue, with a projected growth rate of 5%. It is also set to create 340 permanent and temporary jobs and support local economic activities through 50 usufruct contracts and ten diverse investment sites.
Sheikh Hajri added that the boulevard integrates with the Greater Nizwa Plan, a strategy led by Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, while aligning with the Nizwa Initiative for Healthy Lifestyle launched by the Ministry of Health. “Coordination ensures the project is consistent with the approved urban strategy and contributes to the overall sustainable development goals of Dakhliyah,” he added.
Initiatives under the project will make the boulevard a central destination for visitors exploring the governorate and neighbouring regions.
