PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Thanks to some early snowfall, Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood kicked off its season this weekend.
On Saturday, snowboarders who spoke with FOX 12 said now that the mountain has that fresh layer of powder, they plan on making the trip every weekend.
“My favorite part about it is it just makes me feel like I can forget about anything else I have going on in life,” Matthew Greenslade said. “It’s just me, the snow, the mountain, and my board and it really just zones me out and have a good time.”

According to John Burton with the Timberline Lodge, this is their seventh earliest opening since 1972.
“We are definitely in the full winter vibe. We’ve got about 40 inches on the ground. We were just talking about the forecast coming in, couple feet of snow in the next couple days. It’s cold so conditions are remarkable,” Burton said. “I think the newness is a pre-thanksgiving opening and lots of snow in the forecast so come and get it.”
Business owners in Government Camp are echoing that same sentiment.
Espernza Rodgers, assistant manager at the Huckleberry Inn, said even though they’ve been around for 57 years, witnessing the first batch of good snow will never get old.
“Even when we are here seeing probably every single time when it’s happening, but every single time it’s different so I’m always happy to see how the snow makes the difference for all of us,” Rodgers said. “For those of us who work here or the ones for having fun, it’s all of us together.”
