The city of Agadir has surpassed 1.16 million visitors during the first ten months of 2024, with tourism stay rates following the same upward trend.
The British market is currently the second most important source of tourists for the city after the domestic market, significantly contributing to the growing tourism influx.
As the end of the 2024 season approaches, it appears that the tourism sector in Agadir is regaining its upward momentum despite economic and geopolitical challenges, according to a monthly report from the Agadir-Souss-Massa Regional Tourism Council.
The city has seen a 14.01% increase in the number of visitors compared to 2023, and a 15.66% increase compared to 2019.
During the first ten months of the year, the number of visitors rose from 1 million in 2019 to 1.02 million in 2023, reaching 1.167 million in 2024.
Along with this growth, there was a notable increase in the number of tourist nights, with classified tourist establishments recording a rise of 17.39% compared to 2023, and 8.29% compared to 2019.
According to the same statistical data, the British market is performing exceptionally well in Agadir, surpassing the French market in terms of tourist nights. The British market accounted for 25.33% of the total, compared to 21.29% for the French market during the first ten months of 2024.
British tourists rank second after the domestic market (34.42%), accounting for 18.71% of all tourists staying in classified hotels. This strong performance is attributed to improved air connectivity with the British market, one of the city’s key sources of tourists.
The number of tourist nights from the British market reached 1,273,429 during the first ten months of 2024, compared to 789,605 nights in 2023 and 647,101 nights in 2019. The number of British visitors increased to 218,438 in 2024, up from 129,010 in 2023 and 102,134 in 2019.
Meanwhile, the French market recorded 209,647 visitors during the same period in 2024, with a total of 1,070,281 overnight stays.
On the other hand, the number of domestic visitors declined to 401,797 overnight stays in 2024, compared to 427,571 overnight stays in 2023, with a drop in total tourist nights to 1,120,093, compared to 1,230,474 nights in 2023.
Classified hotels in Agadir recorded an occupancy rate increase of 62.08% in 2024, compared to 56.48% in 2023 and 56.27% in 2019, reflecting a positive development in the overall tourism performance of the city.
