Suva, Fiji — The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) launched the Digital Measurement and Benchmarking Dashboard, a tool designed to provide in-depth insights into tourism performance and sustainability across the Pacific. Developed by SPTO Lead digital specialist Trove Tourism Development Advisors and funded by the New Zealand government, this digital platform brings a new era of strategic measurement and transparency to the Pacific tourism sector.
The dashboard enables national tourism offices, and industry stakeholders to access free quarterly reports on essential key performance indicators (KPIs) such as paid media, social media engagement, email performance, and sustainability metrics. The data is anonymized to ensure privacy and is organized into two primary categories: marketing performance and sustainable tourism indicators. This structure allows for clear, comparative insights into both the region’s digital marketing success and progress toward sustainable tourism objectives.
Paul Davis from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade praised the platform’s significance, stating, “This dashboard represents a major step forward in the region’s digital transformation. By filling critical data gaps, we can better attract investments, refine tourism strategies, and most importantly, ensure the growth of sustainable tourism in the Pacific. The platform reflects our commitment to a future where tourism strengthens Pacific economies while preserving their natural and cultural resources.”
SPTO Chief Executive Officer Christopher Cocker echoed the importance of the dashboard, emphasizing its role in driving sustainable growth and enabling countries to measure their progress. “The Digital Measurement and Benchmarking Dashboard is designed to support the unique needs of the Pacific region, empowering each country to measure its tourism impact in meaningful ways. With data-informed strategies, we can drive tourism development that aligns with both our economic and sustainability goals.”
The platform’s unique methodology allows countries to track their performance over time and graduate across tiers based on results, with guidance and training provided to help maximize its benefits. New users will have access to specialized training sessions to navigate and fully utilize the platform’s capabilities, ensuring they can harness the powerful data for strategic planning and decision-making.
The dashboard also includes a suite of tools for comparative analysis, helping countries to benchmark against regional averages and understand their performance relative to the region. This tiered structure also allows each Pacific country to measure progress in areas like resource conservation and visitor satisfaction, supporting a balanced approach to growth and preservation.
In a sector where happiness, cultural preservation, and environmental health are as vital as economic metrics, SPTO’s Digital Measurement and Benchmarking Dashboard is set to redefine how tourism performance is measured across the Pacific.
