Velhe, 18th November 2024: A tourist bus carrying 25 passengers narrowly avoided a major tragedy when it fell into a 100-foot-deep gorge near Torna Fort on Sunday morning (17th November). The bus was halted mid-descent after striking a tree, which prevented a catastrophic accident.
Two passengers, identified as Nilesh Pratap Kadam (50) and Sanjay Madhukar Patil (49), both residents of Badlapur in Thane district, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the Velhe Rural Hospital. The remaining passengers escaped unhurt.
According to local authorities, the group from Badlapur was traveling to Torna Fort in a mini-bus when the driver lost control while reversing on a sharp curve near the parking area. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the gorge before getting stuck in the branches of a tree.
The road leading to Torna Fort is notorious for its poor condition, with narrow, winding paths and a lack of protective barriers along the edges, posing significant risks to travelers.
