Suriya and director Siva’s magnum opus, Kanguva, witnessed a giant drop in numbers on November 18, which marks its first Monday in theatres. Though the film raked in nearly Rs 140 crore worldwide in four days, early trade reports suggest that the film failed to pass the Monday test. The film got off to a slow start at the box office on November 14. Kanguva received a mixed response from the audience right from its first show, and it seems to have affected its box office performance.

While Studio Green, the film’s production house, claims that Kanguva is performing well in theatres, the box office numbers say otherwise. Tracking website Sacnilk reported that the film earned just Rs 3 crore in India on November 18.
Compared to Day 4 numbers, Kanguva saw a major decline on Monday. According to early estimates, it minted Rs 3.15 crore nett in India, thereby taking the five-day collection to Rs 56.75 crore nett at the domestic box office.
On November 18, the Tamil version recorded an occupancy of 14.23 per cent in India.

Kanguva is a fantasy action drama written by Siva. Ahead of the film’s release, producer KE Gnanavel Raja made tall claims about the box office numbers and generated a lot of buzz in the Hindi market. However, the Hindi version earned nearly Rs 10 crore nett in four days in India.
The Suriya-starrer was criticised for its screenplay and loud music. Suriya’s actor-wife Jyotika defended the film stating that flaws are part of the film. She alleged that it was planned propaganda against the film.

Set in 1070 AD, Kanguva’s story travels in two different timelines. Suriya, Disha Patani and Bobby Deol play lead roles, while Natarajan Subramaniam, KS Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala and Karunas are part of the supporting cast.
