It’s time to set sail into the great unknown once again with Moana and Maui in the highly anticipated sequel, ‘Moana 2‘. The upcoming animated film sees Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho reprising their iconic roles, as they promise to deliver another chapter of empowerment, cultural pride, and self-discovery.
Dwayne, who not only voices Maui but also co-produces the film, said on the Graham Norton Show, “As filmmakers, it was crucial for us to create a story where a young woman is empowered.”
His response followed Kate Winslet‘s praise for the film that she said was ‘special to her’. Revealing why the movie struck a chord with her and her kids, the ‘Avatar’ actress said, “From a young age, you have to tell your daughters, ‘I am proud of myself, I feel good about how I look, you look amazing!’ because with social media, they may never hear it from anyone else.”Winslet went on to add, “That’s why Moana is so special to me. She’s strong, resilient, and powerful. She’s venturing into the world on her own, and she has this beautiful, soft, normal shape. I just love it.”
The original film, celebrated for its portrayal of a courageous and independent heroine, became a cultural touchstone for its uplifting themes. The sequel is reportedly set to take Moana on a journey to the far seas of Oceania after she receives an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors. The film releases in India in both Hindi and English on November 29, 2024.
