Sources say Sony Group is considering a bid to acquire major Japanese publisher Kadokawa to add to its entertainment operations.
Kadokawa started as a book publisher, but has since developed into a media conglomerate with a strong presence in anime, film and video games. It also owns the Dwango video streaming service.
Sony Group already holds a 2 percent stake in Kadokawa and has invested in a popular game unit of the company.
Sony in May said it had set aside 1.8 trillion yen, or more than 11 billion dollars, for acquisitions and other strategic investments over the next three years.
