The obituary in the April 25, 1940, edition of The Local Current of Van Buren, Mo., was short and unadorned:
“Mrs. Josie Bell Gregor was born June 29, 1882 in Carter County and departed this life on April 22, 1940 at the age of 59 years, nine months, and 23 days. She was the daughter of Francis Marion and Rachel Josephine Rongey, her father preceding her in death. She was united in marriage to Edward C. Gregor, who also preceded her in death, and to this union three children were born, Mrs. Voilette Turley of Fremont, Bonnie Belle of St. Louis and Orville Gregor, Lt. Commander, stationed in Shanghai, China, who was unable to attend the funeral.
“Mrs. Gregor lived in Arkansas during the early years of her married life, and following the death of her husband, she moved to Willow Springs, and from there to St.
