PITTSFIELD — Around 35 volunteers work year-round to curate The Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum‘s book sales, with increased staff leading up to each of the three sales at the library in Pittsfield.
As volunteers prepared for this year’s fall sale — which ran from Thursday, Nov. 14 through Saturday, Nov. 16 — over 40,000 donated hardcover and paperback books, CDs, DVDs, games, puzzles, children’s books and more were sorted, categorized and assembled into the library’s auditorium.
The spring, summer and fall book sales raise over $50,000 for the library each year, providing the necessary funds to offer free programming for adults and children, as well as for specialty items like a sound system or chairs to accommodate parents and kids.
