Playing a quick game of pickleball or backyard basketball is a great way to relax after a stressful day. But as Brandon Fiume can tell you, the business of recreation is hard work.
Fiume is the owner-operator of several recreation businesses across Texas, including Tour Greens South Texas and Celebrity Courts, specializing in high-performance court systems, custom backyard putting greens, and artificial turf for commercial and residential spaces. His ventures include Tour Greens Houston, focused on premium turf installations, and the Dallas Indoor Pickleball Club, a fully autonomous, state-of-the-art indoor pickleball facility. Soon to follow is Tour Greens Dallas, along with an additional pickleball facility in Dallas’s Design District that will feature eight top-tier pickleball courts and an array of food and snack options. With his businesses collectively achieving eight-figure growth, Fiume frequently installs courts for celebrity clients, solidifying his reputation as a trusted name in high-quality installations.
We sat down with him to explore how his business insights shaped his success.
You’ve built several companies from the ground up. How did you learn the fundamentals of growing and managing large businesses?
Fiume: My father owned and operated a window and door business for over 45 years — one of the largest in Texas. He taught me the fundamentals of running and operating a window business. I used the same principles and expertise to create a company specializing in high-performance game courts, custom-putting greens, and premium artificial lawns for commercial and residential clients.
You’ve mentioned that your father’s business philosophy has impacted how you run your own companies. How have you emulated your father as an owner-operator?
Fiume: Above all, I treat everybody with respect. When we take on a project, I prefer to use the word “project” instead of “job”; I say we have a project going. We treat everybody’s project like it’s for a family member. We always strive to exceed expectations, and I believe what sets my team apart is our dedication to doing things right the first time and prioritizing quality over profit. When you go above and beyond, people will automatically spread the word about you; sometimes, word-of-mouth advertising works best. That’s how we generate a significant amount of our business through referrals.
Before moving into the world of recreation, you were in the window and door business for many years. How has that experience helped you?
Fiume: I’ve been in the home improvement industry since 1999, starting with the window and door business. Over time, I expanded into the turf space, applying the same successful approach to both ventures. By learning from mistakes and continuously refining your professional skills, you can achieve growth and success. Consistency in your efforts and dedication to quality are key to staying competitive and thriving in any industry.
You manage several businesses at once. For many, that would be a huge challenge. How do you make it work?
Fiume: The team is what makes it work. Not just me by myself. It’s the team behind me orchestrating everything. I own and operate the business, but my team helps with every aspect of growth.
