Clinton-Quisenberry Library news is highlighted with the Holiday Book Sale set for December, as well as the announcement that a search is underway for a new director of the Jackson-Hinds Library System.
Floyd Council has been executive director of the library system since March 2022. Deputy Director Morgan Hedglin has been named interim director. Clinton is one of fourteen libraries in the Jackson-Hinds Library System formed in 1986, replacing a six-county network of Hinds, Rankin, Scott, Simpson, Smith and Warren counties.
The library staff and the Friends of the Library are preparing for the upcoming holiday season, to be highlighted with the Holiday Book Sale Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7. Christmas bows and treats, as well as the usual good-book buys, will be a part of the sale that features a bag of books for five dollars.
Le Bonté Women’s Club is the first organization to agree to decorate a Christmas tree in the library in time for the Holiday Book Sale. Businesses and organizations are encouraged to be a part of the library-decorating gala and can bring in trees to decorate Monday through Saturday by the end of November. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
An encouraging development for the library building has been corrective construction for the front and back doors. Because of foundation shifting problems, a not-so-unusual occurrence in this area, the entry door to the library has had to be left open during library hours. With the City and a contractor working on the problem, the repairs have been completed, with new doors to be installed.
Another site development features the library as one of three Clinton sites to receive an arboretum certification from the Mississippi Urban Forest Council (MUFC), with the Quisenberry Library having some thirty different native tree species. The other locations are the Bruenburg neighborhood and the Clinton Visitor Center.
Regular story hours continue, as Mrs. Mindi presents stories every second Wednesday at 10 a.m. Plans are being made for special Christmas programs. Brittany Moore, branch manager, encourages patrons to check the entry display board and the website JacksonHindsLibrary.org for programs.
