ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) – A new children’s book is gearing up to be released on Monday. The story is set at a historic home in Orange City, Iowa.
On Monday, Nov. 25, “Klaas and the Century Home,” A book will be released by the Orange City Dutch Heritage Boosters.
The children’s book tells the story of Klaas, an adorable yet mischievous mouse and his adventures at the Century Home while visiting his Opa or Grandpa.
The Century Home is a historic home found at 3536 440th St. in Orange City, Iowa
Orange City Dutch Heritage Booster, an organization that owns and maintains the home, according to information released by the organization.
Klaas receives an invitation from his Opa to learn more about Dutch culture, as well as the history of the house and the families who lived there, according to the Orange City Dutch Heritage Boosters.
“From the minute Klaas drops in through the mail slot, to the last page where he learns a special lesson, his adventures are sure to please,” said the organization.
The book was written by three of the organization’s booster members – Janie Van Dyke, Kim Starkenburg and Ann Minnick.
Jane Van Dyke, one of the books authors says the trio is excited for both adults and children to join Klaas on his adventures at the historic Iowa home.
“We are so excited for both children and adults to join Klaas on his adventure through the Century Home,” said Van Dyke.
Additionally, The book was illustrated by Hope Geissert.
The organization says the story of Klaas was born out of looking for a way to celebrate the historic home’s 125th anniversary and share the home and Orange City’s history with the next generation.
“We thought it would be fun to share the stories of the home and Orange City with the next generation. We are educators who love books, and so the story of Klaas was born,” said Van Dyke.
The book is available to order on Amazon or for purchase at the Sinterklaas Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Orange City Town Hall.
The organization says the book will also be available at the Christmas Market on Friday, Dec. 6 from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m.
